Today is International Overdose Awareness day. As of August 18th there’s been 433 fatal overdoses in our province of British Columbia alone. If we go by those statistics, as of today, August 31st, another 24 overdoses have now taken place and about 257 fatal overdoses will occur by the end of this year.

Big Pharma opioids to cure opioid addiction

Just recently, the FDA gave Braeburn Pharmaceuticals the green light to use the first opioid addiction treatment, a Probuphine (buprenorphine) implant, on patients. The more I read about this new implant, the more nervous I get.

When my parents found out that I smoked cannabis as a teen, my dad sat me down and told me in all seriousness that marijuana would be the gateway to harder drugs like heroin, cocaine and so on. At the time I thought he and his “gateway” theory was just crazy talk.
